Acceptance Through Community: How the Love of Others Can Save You From Yourself
We will discuss the response and the responsibility of both the struggler and those in the church to move beyond the same sex struggles and integrate into the Body of Christ. We will present a struggler’s perspective on her journey out of homosexuality and how integral was the love and acceptance of the Church community. She will discuss how the struggler and non-struggler can learn and benefit from each other’s experiences as we all grow toward a closer relationship with the Lord.
Identity in Christ
As women, one of the biggest struggles we deal with is healthy self image and having self confidence in who we are and who God created us to be. It is a journey. What is real beauty and how is that truly defined? This workshop will discuss and elaborate on different aspects of what defines a woman’s self image and how different life experiences drives us to view ourselves internally and externally. The workshop will focus on two different perspectives. The first perspective will discuss one woman’s heterosexual journey of always feeling she never could obtain the world’s standards of outward beauty no matter how hard she tried. This led her down a path of seeking male affirmation and looking for love and acceptance in the wrong places. The second perspective will discuss the homosexual journey from feeling inadequate and never “fitting in” with the female “race” which drove her to find that acceptance in the relationships with women. Both women will talk about the paths of redemption God is leading them on to find His abiding love and grace and how God is continuing to work in their lives.
What’s the Point?
When the days are dark, And the nights long, why continue to follow this God of the Bible?”What if “healing” doesn’t look the way you think it should? What if your attractions never change beyond how you feel right now? Have you truly invited Christ into our journeys to wholeness? Why would you follow Him in the first place? Karen will attempt to provide insight on those questions through her own journey of healing from lesbianism, and give practical help in moving toward this life of hope and peace Christ has promised us.
The Journey to Finding Healthy Friendships
In this session, we will discuss God’s plan for community, what unhealthy in friendship looks like and describe healthy friendships. We will also give practical suggestions on how to “grow up” and aspire to the individual person God intends for you first, before you move into the realm of others.
